Filmmakers Residency

The Basel House of Film now offers three months long residencies for artists working in the field of film and television. Together with supporters, partners and thanks to a generous donor our association was able to created a place of inspiration for filmmakers and an opportunity for the city of Basel to spread its rich offerings into the world, using the visual artists and the medium of film.

The focus of the residency is set on up-and-coming filmmakers. the maximum age for participants is 35 years. Duration: 3 months. National and international talents are welcome in Basel. Chosen applicants are given the opportunity to reflect or create in silence during an important phase of their life. The filmmakers can work in Basel or simply be inspired by the offerings of Switzerland's capital of culture. Basel offers numerous cultural gems such as the Art Basel exhibition, the carnival, a variety of museums, music events as well as the famous Christmas market. At the same time, the local film scene can get in touch with the residents and network. A stipend to cover travel expenses and cost of living complements the offer.

The residency does not offer an organized mentoring program. If approached, our team and partners will connect you with the local filmmakers network. There is no obligation to produce work. Residents can use the open schedule to shape their stay in Basel and, of course, actively pursue a project while staying at the residency. Whether it be writing a script, preparing for a film, drawing storyboards or editing a film. Permanent tenants who do not work in the film business also live in the house. From time to time events and film screenings take place in our club house, which are open to the residents to participate. In addition the infrastructure in the House of Film is at the resident's disposal. It features a clubhouse and meeting room, office space, a little cinema space (with VR equipment) and an editing/grading suite powered by Hewlett Packard.
